Project Details
S&B performed PS&E for direct connectors and the widening of mainlines along a freight corridor. Our team analyzed as-built geometrics against previously developed geometrics for compatibility with current design standards and then redesigned horizontal and vertical profiles to accommodate as-built conditions.
The revised geometrics were incorporated into updated schematics, and S&B prepared an interstate access justification report with separate PS&E packages for the remaining five direct connectors. S&B provided engineering services through six design teams who followed a QC/QA plan throughout development. This project adjoins a reconstruction and widening project to the south that was scheduled to be let eight months after S&B’s.
We immediately began technical work sessions with the southern project team to ensure that construction phases and steps aligned between projects. A master TCP sequence was developed, with S&B leading the geometrics technical review to ensure cross slopes, alignments and profiles matched. Our services were expanded to combine three PS&E packages into one for letting.
