HOUSTON, December 15, 2021 — S&B Engineers and Constructors (S&B) was awarded an engineering and construction contract to engineer, procure and build Chevron Phillips Chemical’s new C3 splitter unit. Located at the company’s Cedar Bayou plant in Baytown, Texas, the new unit has an expected capacity of 1 billion lbs./year. Construction is set to begin in January 2022.
“We’re confident in S&B’s ability to execute on its commitments successfully,” said Justine Smith, Senior Vice President of Petrochemicals for Chevron Phillips Chemical. “We selected the S&B team based on their strong experience, expertise and performance. They are the right choice, as we expand to meet the company’s growing customer demand while establishing room for future growth.”
The C3 splitter will convert a refinery-grade mixture of propylene and propane into a high purity propylene product, a key building block for many household and industrial applications.
At its peak, S&B anticipates the project will create 350-plus construction jobs, with project startup slated for 2023.
“We’re honored to support our long-standing client Chevron Phillips Chemical in its endeavors to expand its global propylene business,” said David Taylor, President and COO of S&B. “We look forward to maintaining our stellar record for safe, on-time and on-budget project execution.”
