S&B Hosts First-Ever Bring Your Kids to Work Day

News

Mike Janssen SVP of Engineering Operations

Houston, TX – July 10, 2025 — Laughter and learning filled the halls of S&B’s headquarters on Thursday, June 19, during the company’s first-ever Bring Your Kids to Work Day. The event, called Future S&B’er Day, welcomed 40 kids to learn about the world of engineering, procurement and construction firsthand through a full day of engaging science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) activities.

Open to S&B employees’ children entering grades 3 through 12, the event blended fun with real-world learning. The day began with students touring S&B’s offices, meeting its young professionals and ended with a safety relay, where children received hard hats and certificates to mark their achievements.

Throughout the day, children also had the opportunity to test their engineering skills through hands-on paper airplane competitions and marble run engineering challenges. Students in grades 8 to 12 mentored the younger participants to enhance their leadership skills and gain real-world experience.

“We are proud to host the next generation of thinkers, makers, and builders,” said Wendy Coker, Vice President of Human Resources at S&B. “This event reflects the heart of S&B, which includes a strong culture of mentorship and the opportunity to inspire future talent.”

Designed as a pilot for the Memorial office in Houston, Texas, the success of the day signals strong potential for expansion to other S&B offices.
