Detailed Engineering.
The flexibility and experience of our core engineering disciplines allow S & B to execute any project, of any size, at any stage of the project development. Below are the capabilities of our Core Disciplines.
Process Design
The Process Department consists of both degreed and licensed chemical engineers with an average of 24 years in the industry and 6 years with S & B. The department performs classical process design and systems engineering, serving the refining, petrochemical and midstream industries. In order to successfully perform these projects, the Process Department uses many of the latest computer programs and equipment available.
Piping and Mechanical Group
The mechanical and piping group consists of both degreed and licensed mechanical engineers as well as designers proficient in both computer aided and manual design. The group has an average experience of 23 years in the industry and 7 company years.
Capabilities include specialized knowledge and experience in the areas of heat transfer, pressure vessels, pipe stress analysis and piping engineering. Additionally, S & B has a strong background in the area of engineered packaged equipment such as:
Automation is used throughout the piping and mechanical work processes. Both third party and in-house developed software packages are used to improve productivity. The overall strategy in the use of automation is to enter the information once and then use it many times. One example of how this strategy is employed in the mechanical group is in the area of pipe specifications. The mechanical engineer develops the initial piping specifications, which are then electronically downloaded to AutoCAD where they are used by the piping designers.
After completion of piping design, information is electronically extracted from these specifications and used by the material take off group. Although the information is used in several steps of the design process, it is entered into the system only once.
Instrument/Electrical Group
Our Instrument and Electrical engineers and specialists have an average of 24 years of industry experience. Designer experience averages 22 years in the industry. The members of this department have an average of 9 years of experience with S & B.
The majority of engineers, designers, and specialists have experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), CEMS (Continuous Emissions Monitoring System), SWAS (Steam Water Analyzer System), Process Analyzers, as well as all major brands of conventional instrumentation.
Civil/Structural/Architectural
The Civil/Structural/Architectural group is comprised of degreed and licensed engineers as well as designers. Members of this department have an average of over 24 years of industry experience, 7 of which are with S & B.
This department has incorporated specialized engineering techniques into standard Civil / Structural / Architectural engineering practices. These are techniques not considered common practice throughout the industry, but they have proven extremely valuable to many of our clients. They include:
